Land scam: HC asks 3 officials to appear before CB-CID cops. On Wednesday, Madras High Court directed three government officials to appear before CB-CID for inquiry in connection with the land scam cases registered in the Theni district, last year. The court hearing was anticipatory bail petitions filed by Tahsildar Rathnamala, divisional deputy Tahsildar Mohanram, and land surveyor S Shaktivel who were booked in this case. The case involves the illegal transfer of 180 acres of government land to private individuals in Theni. In December 2021, the Theni district crime branch (DCB) unit registered two cases against 14 people including eight government officials and an AIADMK functionary Anna Prakash.
The Pattas were canceled and officials in the case were placed under suspension. The cases have been transferred to the Theni CB-CID. Justice K Murali Shankar directed the petitioners to appear before the CB-CID officials with all records within 10 days from the date of receipt of a copy of this order.
CB-CID officials, after considering the records, shall get permission from the concerned judicial magistrate for custodial interrogation. If the petitioners fail to appear before the police in the directions of this court, the police are at liberty to proceed against the petitioners in accordance with the law, said the judge.
