Madras HC closes against ex-chief secretary Girija Vaidyanathan. No case was made related to court proceedings, the Madras High Court on Tuesday. contempt petition against the former chief secretary of Tamil Nadu Girija Vaidyanathan was closed. it was filed by Speaker of Tamil Nadu State Assembly M Appavu.
In 2017, a contempt petition was filed against the state government that had committed “willful disobedience” of the court order which was passed in 2015 on the third and fourth phase of the Thamirabarani – Karumeniar – Nambiar inter-linking project to take water to Radhapuram and its surrounding places.
The bench said that no case for contempt of court was made, and asked the counsel of petition “which order of the court was flouted” and pointed out that there was no direct contempt of the court. They closed and discharged the notice issued.
After recalling, Appavu filed a writ petition before the high court in 2011(AIADMK Government) they put the project on the backburner. In the hearing, Public Works Department (PWD) submitted bar charts before the court suggesting that time-
bound implementation of the project and subsequently, the court passed orders.in 2017 contempt of court petition has no progress was made on implementation and disobedience of the court order was committed by the government.
